My post title might sound a little funny...but this is a REAL nightmare! We decided the french doors going into our family room needed to be painted from tuscany red back to white for selling our home. I had never been quite satisfied with the red doors and my realtor confirmed it for me so it was time to work on it. Randy has been working so many hours on his side job so the doors were assigned to yours truly to finish. The doors stick a little already with the paint on it so we had to either sand off the old paint or strip it off. I went with the paint stripping choice but looking back, sanding would be a whole lot easier!
My first day of trying turned out to be a disaster! The material only works when it is wet...I discovered after using half of the solution to cover both doors. It was way fumey and it took hours for me to scrape small sections off. Both Randy and neighbors watching me agreed that it might be better to buy new doors. What! $110 dollars when these doors are perfectly fine except the paint mess all over it?? I don't think so! So yesterday was try #2. I took off to lowes and this time came back with a citrus stripper that was supposed to stay wet for 24 hours so it can be stripped in one swoop. Well, it is not as good as it sounds, but 10 times better than the first one! Here is my efforts of hours upon hours of work yesterday.

Not only do I still have hours of cleaning up the left over sludge before I can paint it..but it makes quite a sticky mess with the paint scrapings...

Yuck! I don't recommend doing this to anyone who thinks it might be fun. I might have a little handy mam experience now, but I would take handy man Randy's help any day over this!!!
