Coupon Bargains

I've been tightening the budget lately and trying my skills at couponing. Since I don't get the newspaper, it has been a slow start. I am envious of those whose grocery stores do the double and triple coupons and those who are close to a CVS store. But Albertsons had a great sale going on this week and I am quite happy with the deals I was able to get.

I paid $32 for all of this and had a $10 gift card to use for my next purchase. This first purchase I used as many manufacturer coupons as I could find. After I got home I started thinking and decided that I could stock up on soup and cake mix with the sale without spending too much more.

(4 boxes cereal, 2 packages refridgerated cookie dough, 2 peperidge farm fish, 2 bags chex mix , 1 toaster strudel, 1 bag cheerios snack mix, 4 packages of poptarts, 1 container of frosting, 4 pillsbury grand rolls, 1 box fruit snacks, 1 box chex bars, 1 gallon milk, 1 package of yogurt, 1 box macroni grill dinners, 1 box cake mix)

So for $20 I got all this.. (it would of only been $16 if I remembered the coupons on the counter) but oh well, I'm still learning.

(40 cans progresso soup, 5 boxes cake mix, 5 containers of frosting, 2 64 oz Hawaiian punch, 2 packages frozen vegetables, 1 case ramen noodles, 1 loaf bread, 1 dozen eggs, 1 bag chips)

I looked at the reciepts and it said I saved a little over $150. Woohoo! Not that I would of bought all of this stuff without a sale...but it is great to use to stock up some of our food storage.

Pizza Biscuits

I had some grands biscuits in my fridge and wanted to try something new, so I found this recipe online. It was a fun meal for the kids and a nice change from the normal meals we've had.

To make it you will need:
1 package of refridgerated biscuits (grands)
ground beef-browned
1 jar spaghetti sauce
shredded cheese

The biscuits have 8 in a package. Take each biscuit and pull apart so there are 2 of them. There is a natural separation in each one. Then roll each biscuit flat with a rolling pin.
Mix browned beef with spaghetti sauce.Grease a muffin pan and place one biscuit in each muffin spot. Fill with spaghetti sauce mix. Sprinkle cheese ontop.
Place in oven at 350 degrees for 8-12 minutes. It took the full 12 minutes for mine. I found if I let it cool a little before taking out, it came out easier.

Burnt Offerings

We had a little excitement in our house this morning. I have taught Connor how to use the microwave for popcorn (always under my supervision). This morning Connor came upstairs and was telling Randy about a fire truck and hot pizza and the microwave. He went downstairs to investigate and found this in the microwave...

Thank goodness he came upstairs to tell us! The whole downstairs was filled with smoke. I am really surprised the fire alarms didn't go off.

The scary thing is that there was still 2 minutes left on the timer. It could of been a disaster if Connor didn't warn us about it! Here is the plate after we threw out the pizza.

Needless to say, our hair and clothes smelt like smoke at church today. Hmmm....maybe we should go over a fire evacuation plan at family home evening on monday. Good thing the microwave has a child lock on it. I think I will be using that from now on...

Room Makeover

Connor's room was in need of a touch up, so last week I did a little painting. This time I went with a yellow with more tan in it and replaced the blue on the bottom with white. I really like how the curtains made the room look.

Before...I already moved some of the furniture before I took this picture.

Girls Night Out

Last Wednesday we had a little "girls get together" compliments of Randy's cousin Christina. A little funny tidbit of info...she is best friends with 2 of my roomates from college. It has been almost 10 years since I've seen them, so I was so excited to hear that we were all getting together for dinner.

Order from left to right Diane, Nisha, Andrea, Christina
The first pictures were a little blurry due to a little boy finger print on my camera lens :).
So when we found the cash machine...we had to take a few more!

After a little digging, I found some old college pics of us girls.

Andrea, Diane, Brad, Nisha and Alyssa.

Andrea with Brad Pitt. (He was a regular at our apartment)
All of the girls from Colonial House #102. Clockwise from the top..Alyssa, Eliza, Nisha, Diane, Andrea and Brooke.

Thanks girls! I had lots of fun. Christina...You are the best girl!
