Balloon Glow Fest

We headed over to Sandy on saturday to the balloon glow they were having. There were about 8 balloons that participated.

We watched as they slowly filled them with air.

The boys were mezmerized. Especially at the parts that they blew fire into it to help it blow up faster.

The balloon behind us was about half full at this point.

As you can see, they quickly got bigger than all of the trucks used to haul them in.

They were so pretty once they were filled up. I was expecting them to take off and hover above us, but I guess the glow was just for them to light the fires for us. Oh well.

There was also a country band playing for us. I'll spare you of the blurry headbanging shots. The ol' camera is not good at night shots.

Oh, and in case you are wondering. They are able to steer them somewhat like a car. Randy and I were debating on it so we just had to ask. I guess different altitudes have different wind directions, so when they want to go left or right, they just go to the correct altitude.

Hmmm...learn something new every day!!

Super Heros and Bucket Heads

We all seem to know a few!!

"Mom! Look, I'm a BIG STRONG BOY!" I turned around to see this!!

I wish I had taken this picture as a full body shot. It was so cute!!!

Kyler has taken a liking to some sand buckets. Last week while I was running errands, he insisted on wearing it in EVERY store we went in.

Hmmm....like father like son I guess!

Camping Trip and Catch up posting. See posts below...

We took our first camping trip with the boys...EVER during pioneer day. We headed up to Glendale Lake near my parents house in Preston for 3 days. It was lots of fun, but I have no pictures to share since my camera was broken when it soaked in bubble solution a couple weeks ago.

The lake was nice and warm and there were lots of people and boats on the lake during the weekend. The boys brought the bikes up and Connor managed to pop 2 intertubes on his bike over the weekend.

My parents brought a paddleboat and we had lots of fun paddling it around the lake. The boys did really good with the life jackets for the most part. We did have a little scare when Connor decided he didn't need his and went in further than he could touch. Luckily Randy saw him and I quickly dived in and saved him. He sunk below the water just as I reached him.

It is scary to think of what could of happened if Randy wasn't watching him just at the moment he wandered. We were getting ready to get him to bring him with us in the boat when it happened. Lakes are not exactly easy to see in so it could of easily turned into a tragedy. Thank goodness it didn't!!!

Other than that we had lots of fun and ate lots of smores ;). The boys keep on asking when we are going camping again. I think it's time we get some family camping equipment.

4th of July

We spent the morning at the Freedom Festival in Provo. First we watched the parade...

Then we spent the afternoon checking out the activities there.

The wagon turned out to be a lifesaver when we went up by the Provo Temple to watch the fireworks from the freedom festival.

Summer Pics

Connor loves to make things. Here he took a jumprope and connected a bike to a wagon to give rides to the neighbor kids.

I came around the corner to this one day! He had attached a cup of playdough to the door and was ready to let it go!

And bubbles and bubbles and bubbles. Connor received a bubble blower for his birthday and this is what they did with it!

Finger painting is a messy sport!

Playing with stickers!!!

Our Garden

We're still experimenting at the gardening thing. Our tomatoes are just starting to ripen. Soooo excited!!!

So far we've gotten carrots and green onions (planted the bulb onions so not sure why green onions came up). We had a few rows of beautiful lettuce...but they were really bitter. Anyone know why they would be?? This is the second year in a row of bitter lettuce.

Our corn has stunted growth, hopefully the ears will grow. We have a huge crop of cucumbers coming up.

I also planted 4 rows of watermelon and ended up with 2 plants. They are the big watermelons so I hope I get a few from them.

I also tried canning for the first time this summer. A neighbor knew someone with a cherry tree so we spent an afternoon picking them. I ended up with 2- 5 gallon buckets of cherries.

Unfortunately, my mom is 2 1/2 hours away, so I had to try and figure out canning on my own. It was quite a sight when I was starting out. First I almost dunked the jars in the water without screwing on the bands to the lids. Luckily Randy asked me right before I covered it with water so I was able to save it. Then I boiled the first batched the whole time without the lid on the steam bath. ??? I guess you live, you learn...right??

Leave it to me to try complicated recipes my first time through. And of course they were online recipes so I had issues with EACH one.
But they all worked out in the end. I made cherry jam, maraschino cherries, cherry pie filling and then some of the leftover cherry syrup was thickened for pancake syrup.
